LS3 (9-11) - 7

LS3 (EXT) 7

Context of Lesson:

This lesson will consist of a game of flyswatter in order to help students recall the prior knowledge in which they will need to successfully complete the unit test I have for them. After 30 minutes, I will give students the remaining hour to take the exam.

Opportunities to Learn:

Plans for Differentiating Instruction

  • Making myself available at all times as well as walking around the room will allow my students to ask me questions at anytime during the exam. I will be glad to answer any questions, however, I will not give away answers at any time to any student.

Accommodations and modifications

  • Any students with an IEP or that require special requirements during the exam will be taking to help give them the best opportunity to succeed
  • There is a 0 tolerance for cheating, anyone caught cheating will have their exam taken from them with NO make up
    • They will receive a 0 for the exam and possibly a phone call home

Environmental factors

For the game of flyswatter (which will help students review before the exam) students will get into groups of 4-5 and take turns reading the definitions while the other students "swat" at the laminated cards. This will last about 30 minutes before I stop them to take the exam. When taking the exam, I will create 2 versions in order to avoid cheating. Lab benches at which students work at are very close together and in order to eliminate the temptation of cheating, 2 versions of the exam will be distributed to the students at each lab bench.

Engagement:

  1. Activity 1 - Flyswatter
    • By laminating key topics and vocabulary words onto index cards, students will be able to see what they remember as they are quizzed by their peers during the game of flyswatter. Each student takes a turn at reading off definitions that they believe will be on the exam. Students NOT reading the definition at the time will race to "swat" the correct word before anyone else.
2. Activity 2 - Summative Assessment
    • Unit exam - Students will be taking a unit exam in order to show me how much they actually learned throughout this lesson.

Assessment:

Flyswatter
